Week 21st August - 25th August

Maths
Place Value
This week we have been looking at place value and which place each number needs to go. Students are able to draw the columns of units, tens, hundreds, thousands and millions and write the numbers in different forms. Students know written, expanded, base 10 and standard form. They have looked at whole numbers and are beginning to work on decimal numbers.

It is very very important that students know their times tables and we encourage them to practice at home each night until they are confident.
Writing
Completing the narrative. Working with Ms Lynn, students have completed their narrative pieces of writing. They have edited their work and published their final copy.
We look forward to their writing continuing to develop throughout the year.
Reading
Students have read a wide variety of Migration stories both in class and for free reading. Looking at the stories, students are trying to make the connection to the lines of inquiry to deepen their understanding of the Central Idea.
UOI
Students have spent the week both in school and outside of school learning the techniques needed to conduct interview questions. With a variety of activities and looking at Brainpops, students have a wider experience of which questions make good interviews. They should have now interviewed at least 2 people from home finding out their migration story.

Approaches To Learning
Students brought in their own 'item' which could be looked at through the lens of an ISSUE. Ms Lou shared an example of a lycra sports top and how it could be used through the eight Key Concepts. Students completed their own ISSUE, using their item and looking at it through form, function, change, causation, connection, responsibility, reflection and perspective.
