Week 2 August 14th - August 18th

Maths
Basic Operations
The week has been spent getting students back into addition, subtraction, long multiplication and division.
It is very very important that students know their times tables and we encourage them to practice at home each night until they are confident.

Writing
What an exciting week. Working alongside Ms Lynn, students have been writing some amazing pieces. Starting with an introduction that hooks their reader, including powerful adjectives, writing the problem and then completing their first writing sample in Grade 5, we are very impressed with this first attempt.
We look forward to their writing continuing to develop throughout the year.

UOI
A great start to our first unit of inquiry for Grade 5. We have looked at the transdisciplinary theme of Where We Are In Place and Time and from that have identified that we are looking at migration. We have looked at some reasons people migrate and students are looking at their own family members and friends to find out more information about why families move.

Approaches To Learning
We started with our first inquiry today which we will plan each Friday so that the students are ready for their Grade 5 PYP Exhibition in April. They now know the six transdisciplinary themes, the eight key concepts, the Learner Profiles and the Essential Elements. A great first lesson.
