Dates To Remember

Save this date for our Grade 5 PYP Exhibition

Thursday 5th April 6pm to 7pm

Friday 6th April 7.30am

WEEK 3 March 12th - March 16th

We are now HALF WAY through Exhibition having completed 3 weeks and 3 weeks left to go.

Here are the reports for Week 3 of the Exhibition:

Field Trips!-Jasmine!
Students of Grade 5 have been going on field trips these last couple of weeks. Many of the students have been going to organizations such as Unicef, PPAWS and Friends. Some of the students have emailed people who are specialists in their area of interest.

The students have been asking lots of deep questions that will be great for their Exhibition and should help them learn more about their issue. I went to an Hospital in Cambodia which specialised in eye surgery and I collected a lot of data to interpret. Lots of the students are collecting a lot of data which they need for their Exhibition.

Mentors By Jade

Every week we have two mentor meetings, one during Exhibition time and one at lunch time. At that time we talk to our mentor, about what's been going on, and what we need help with in our groups.

A mentor is a person that you look up to or follow (as a person and what they do to change the world).Googles definition of a Mentor is “an experienced and trusted adviser.”  or “advise or train (someone, especially a younger colleague).”.

Every week we have a mentor time checklist to check with our mentor to talk about some things we need to do with them like show our checklist, events, field trips and more..

Positive Stuff and Hard Stuff in PYP Exhibition

Jae Yong

In Exhibition we have done stuff that was easy and fun but sometimes we went through some hard situations; and one of them is when your team argues and doesn’t get through anything for the whole day. After that happens you have a lot to catch up on like your journals and sometimes even your finished perfectly crystal clear issue. We have been through happy times like when you are so up to date that you have nothing to do and you have a happy free time in the Exhibition when all the other people are working hard to catch up from the week before. My group The Technolution have been struggling because one of our group members issue doesn’t exactly fit with the rest of the groups issues. Well we have been through some happy times where we were getting on with our work and having breaks when we need to rest our brains.

DATA COLLECTING
By JESDA

FOR DATA COLLECTING, WE HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE SPECIFIC THING TO WORK ON. I CHOSE PERCENTAGE OF … IN SANCTUARIES, E.G: 2% OF SANCTUARIES KILL THEIR ANIMALS, 8% ABUSE, 90% PROTECT THE ANIMALS.

AFTER YOU COLLECT YOUR DATA, YOU HAVE TO ANALYZE THAT SPECIFIC THING YOUR DOING.  FOR DATA, YOU CAN HAVE AS MUCH INFORMATION YOU CAN GET, BUT IT HAS TO BE RELATED TO YOUR DATA COLLECTING. AFTER FINISHING, YOU HAVE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT CAN ATTRACT PEOPLE’S ATTENTION, BUT NOT TO BORE ANYONE OUT. BUT IT’S BEST TO BE ABLE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE CAN INTERACT WITH.

Process Journals
By Zoe

In Exhibition we have Process Journals. A Process Journal is a book where we keep everything we did through Exhibition.
We are now in Week Four. We have filled our Process Journals with LOTS of information, and what we have been doing for the past weeks.

First, we had Week One, with our Essential Agreements in our groups, our Central Ideas, our Key Concepts and our Lines of Inquiry.

In Week Two, we started to research about our chosen topics and writing our discoveries in our Process Journals. We also started planning Field Trips and Interviews, putting what we learnt in the Books.

In Week Three, we started collecting Data. Everything we researched went into our Journals. We also asked out surveys to help us with our Data, and we put the surveys into our Process Journals as well.

We only started Week Four, but in Ms. Lou’s class, we started sorting out what we have in our Process Journals into 5 categories;
  • Key Concept 1
  • Key Concept 2
  • Key Concept 3
  • Data
  • General Information

That is pretty much what is in our Journals.

Weekly Blog Post

Weekly Blog Post
By Xunkenn, Maggie, Olivia, and Nana

MONADY
Exhibition officially started and each day we would got to our exhibition group and do work.
We did many work in the first day we picked were we were sitting with our team and make
our central idea mark our territory we did many exhibition that day, and we barely did
our daily activities. We also had to reflect on going camping in kirirom. We learned many
things in our first day about each other. Not only that there was a schedule on the board
showing what time we will go to exhibition. This was also a start of a really long math
worksheet, that the Ms Michelle was planning to finish one per day.

TUESDAY
We gained our new books, and in ms Lou class we had to change tables. Each teacher
made us do different activities and things. We got to see books that were like ours in the
future, or something Teacher’s was  expecting. We got a schedule for what we were going
to do for the first week we also got a short calendar with February, March, and April. After
we glued those in our books. We were doing more research and more. Not only that we got
told our mentor times some even had to go today.

WEDNESDAY
It was Wednesday and more things was happening in the exhibition group. Today we
designed poster while people were still going to the mentor, in the mentor we had to take
pictures with them and talk what you have in common. Later Of course we had to try to
finish the poster. Not only that we got exhibition homework which replaced our normal
homework and that homework was write 2 question and answer it with 5 simple answers.
Finally we did our key concept question.

THURSDAY
On Thursday we did more work, we Finished a lot of things like the key concept question we
finished it and chose 3 main key concept. Today some people had to have lunch with their
mentors and catch up and talk. The teacher also told us what will happen tomorrow which
was known as the parent visit, in it they had to come and we would have to explain about
what we did in exhibition so far more information will come tomorrow about this.
Not other than that, people started decorating their books. When each day past it got
harder and mostly fun working with people we don’t normally work with. We also had to
show our question and 5 answer to our friends, later they had to write it into a
summarised form. We got the same homework as we did yesterday with different questions.

FRIDAY
The last day of the week and also the day parents came so what happen was there was a
meeting for the parents, whiled we got ready and waited in our room, later we showed them
everything and we spent 10 minute in each room then moved to the next one, an example
would be we started in Ms Lou room and went to all room and arrived back after going to
each room and breakout space. In Ms Lou room we were going to let them fill out a form,
later in ms michelle room we showed them kirrom photos and told them about the trip,
mr Garrett's room had G6 who experienced exhibition tell and answer question about
exhibition. Finally the last room was more like a breakout space were we showed them
extra and what we did out there. After when we got back to exhibition and were decorating
our books and sticking in things in our flimsy into our books in Ms Lou exhibition class.

WEEK 2 Exhibition Journey Monday 5th March to Thursday 8th March

Thank you to all our parents who attended the Parent Information Morning last Friday.
We hope you learnt alot about what we did when we were on our camp in VKiriom and how that prepared us for Exhibition.

Thank you for listening to us as we showed you what we did in our last unit of inquiry and for leaving the school, information into ways you maybe able to help us with our Exhibition inquiries.

How We Started

How We Made Our Central Ideas

ZoƩ

How did we start Exhibition? Well, we started by looking at our areas of interest. Our Transdisciplinary Theme is Who We Are. Using that knowledge, we looked at possible topics. Then, we told our teachers what we were interested in. After, they sorted us into groups based one what we were interested in. Then, each group worked together to find Central Ideas using all the topics they chose to inquire into.
Key Concepts
How we chose our key concepts
Sofia
We started exhibition by choosing our topics and our key concepts. For example my key concepts were change, causation and perspective. We ended up choosing different ones for our group(Animal Hope: Jesda, Zoe, Rothida, Lucy and Sofia (me). Our groups key concepts are perspective change and form. Key concepts are if you are asking a question you know what sort of question it is.
Lines of inquiry-Jesda
Students have tried to use their progress by using their chosen 3 key concepts to create lines of inquiry to match the their chosen three key concepts. For example, my three key concepts were perspective, form, and change.
For perspective my line of inquiry was: An inquiry into, how different people react to the same situation.
For my form one, it is: An inquiry into animal rights.
For my change one, it is: an inquiry into humans affects animal rights in past and present.
The lines of inquiry should be connected to your topic in different ways, and let the key concepts be connected to the lines of inquiry.

Mentors - Maya
In the beginning of exhibition ( week one) each group was given a mentor.
A mentor is a teacher at the school that you will see on one specific day every week
( until exhibition ends). You will tell them your process/ what you have done, Ideas you have, what y
ou are planning, What you are going to do during the week.In advance with your mentor you can
organize a extra day to meet up. Like at lunch while you eat or at recess ( lunch and break )

My mentor is Ms Kelly in grade one.  My group and I have been having some really good ideas and
Ms. Kelly helps make our ideas better and more fun! And she also gives us feedback that really
helps us out a lot! She has given my group some really good ideas and made talking with her fun.
She also tells us previous stuff about exhibition groups from the last grade five group she mentored
last year.

Collecting Data-Monyroat
Students have been thinking of ways to collect data. Some students chose to do surveys with Google forms asking people questions about their group’s topic in Exhibition and display it with a graph or chart showing teachers or parents the different answers that they gave. Some students created surveys for students from all different grade levels but some even did surveys for teachers. Some students chose to interview people as another way of collecting data. Some groups went to interview different teachers around school that teach related subjects to the group’s topic. For example my group M.E.S.S (Monyroat, Eemil, Stirling and Sonyta) are doing physical health and we have interviewed Ms Angela and we are going to interview Ms.Leticia and Mr.Ben and then we will compare their answers.

Interviews- JJ

Students have been thinking of interviews they can use for their exhibition project. Some are going to interview organizations or specific people they know. Like in one group someone has a uncle that is a doctor and they decide to contact him because they have some kind of connection. People has been searching for organizations that connect to their topic. They can contact them by phone, email, social media and etc. Some groups are already sending messages to organizations and other people too. Some aren’t in Cambodia so they might have to do the interview with skype or something that people can use. They need to find a good place and a good time that doesn’t disturb their work or life. They need to be friendly and positive.

Field Trips-Otis

Students have been thinking of field trips to help them understand and gather more data from
their organizations they are looking at.They have decided on times when groups can all go for
example my group are planning to go to Carlotta's house on Friday and go to PPAWS from
there while we gather data and bring back to school on Monday. Lots of people in Exhibition
have already decided on field trips because of its data benefits that can help their group which
include gathering data and Primary sources. Our mentor is Ms.Kelly from Grade 1 and our group
is called Animazing.

Research - Jihwan
Students worked hard on researching about their chosen topic. They came up with questions to
help them with research. Students researched in many different ways, including Internet,
interview, field trips, etc. On week two, students are all going to focus on gathering the
information as the week is all about finding out. Students’ goal is to be very knowledgeable
about the topic so they can present confidently. The process of researching can be different,
but they will all have lots of information after they finish researching. For Ms Michelle’s
Exhibition class, we are researching about the key concepts so we can know the information that
belongs to each key concepts.
