WEEK 4TH SEPTEMBER - 8TH SEPTEMBER

Maths

Continuing With Decimals
 adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
This week we have been continuing to inquire further into decimals. We have added, subtracted and divided decimals, understanding that we need to keep the columns in a straight line as we complete the process. Multiplying decimals is different in that it is numbers AFTER the decimal point, which indicate the final answer.
We are now applying this knowledge to more in depth questions about decimals.

It is very very important that students know their times tables and we encourage them to practice at home each night until they are confident.

Writing
Students continue to write with Ms Lynn and are completing their final narrative based around migration. They are applying the skills into their work and it is a joy watching them develop in this area of the curriculum.

Reading
Students continue to read a wide variety of Migration stories both in class and for free reading. Looking at the stories, students are trying to make the connection to the lines of inquiry to deepen their understanding of the Central Idea.

UOI
Students have spent the week making connections with the three lines of inquiry. Through a variety of written and reading activities they are continually making links between the key concepts, perspective, change and connection. They are producing work in their books, on large pieces of paper and digitally. This has been a great first unit of inquiry. Well done Grade 5. THANK YOU to all the parents who came in today and allowed the students to interview them.

 The Assembly
Congratulations on putting together the first Grade Assembly for this school year. There have been a number of feedback comments from teachers at how good you were. The Grade 5 teachers are very proud of what you achieved.
